Voices of the Homefront: A Whitehead Heritage Festival

Come and spend your day with us in the picturesque seaside town of Whitehead where you will be transported back to the 1940s at our Whitehead Excursion Station. In every area of our 5-gallery Museum there will be something for you to see, learn about, and enjoy, from period vehicles to war time soldiers.

Throughout the day, visitors can meet reenactors in authentic period costume, showcasing everyday life on the Home Front, alongside engaging historical displays across the site, including vintage war time vehicles.

Enjoy the atmosphere of the day with live period-inspired music, adding to the immersive experience throughout the museum.

Hauled by our 105 year-old steam locomotive No.3BG "Guinness", there will be short steam train rides available within our premises using our heritage carriages. You will be transported to a bygone era!

Guests can also enjoy demonstrations, along with a variety of craft activities and traditional games for children, making it a family-friendly day out filled with hands-on experiences and historical discovery.

A unique festival combining history, heritage and entertainment for all ages. So, join us for our very first Home Front Festival - come in your period uniform, seamed stockings and victory rolls hairdo for a fun-filled day of nostalgia.

Our café will be open for hot and cold food and refreshments - if you have your ration book!
