The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland is delighted to announce the latest diesel railtour.
We had planned to operate this tour with NIR GM locomotive 112, but unfortunately it is unavailable due to technical reasons. The RPSI apologises to our passengers who were looking forward to being hauled by the NIR locomotive.
With the assistance of Irish Rail, we have requested replacement 071 class locos to haul our special train throughout. The tour will now be hauled by an 071 locomotive from Dublin to Cork to Limerick. At Limerick, we will swap our 071 class locomotive for another member of the class. The second locomotive will then haul the railtour from Limerick to Ennis on up the WRC to Athenry and back to Dublin.
It is planned to depart from Dublin (Connolly) to join the Cork mainline at islandbridge. The tour will take the down fast line and pick up at Portarlington, with brief stops at Ballybrophy and Limerick Junction for photographs.
On leaving Cork we will run express to Limerick via Limerick Junction. There will be a 90 minute break to service the train, and passengers can explore Limerick city.
The path north along the Western Rail Corridor will have photo stops at Ennis, Gort and on to Athenry. From Athenry we re-join the Galway to Dublin route via Portarlington (set down) and return to the capital crossing various west-bound services en route.
As with previous diesel railtours this one is sure to be very popular and will sell out quickly so don't delay, and get your booking in as soon as possible.
The train will be made up of our Cravens coaching stock complete with usual facilities of snack car serving a variety of hot and cold items throughout the day alongside our renowned bar car with draught and bottled beverages available all day.
